Wow dude that is one rare tortoise to came across:eek: That is a tent tortoise Psammobates sp not shure wich species but that doesant mater since the care for all is the same. What I need to seriously worn you is how dificult that genus of South African tortoises is to sucessfuly keep in captivity. Even guys that are real experts in this matter have faild to keep them. If your sister has found it you are assured it has been keept ilegaly somewhere as a pet. That is because all of these species are now protected and they are ilegal to export. So either this guy was expoted before the ban took place (wich makes him legal) or he was ilegaly smugled. But that doesant matter now ,all that mathers is to keep him alive and well.
For one think having him walking in your house´s floor isnt at all wise. This guys need a hot and absolutley dry (with the necessary shadow of corse) habitat if they are to remain alive. Your tortoise may already have a begining of pneumonia from exposure to insuficient temps and to much humity. Please find some way to have him shecked for a exotic vet. And for now dont sell him. Try to find a experienced tortoise keeper in your area.

ive had him for many mths already.
since last year.
hes fine right now.
and of course,i dont let him near any chemicals or whatever.
im quite careful. ;)
im pretty sure he came before the ban.
my sister's friend has three of these tortoises all about the same size.
and she bought them when they were still legal to keep.
but i cant be sure of course.

Here´s a very good care sheet to start:Dhttp://www.chelonia.org/Articles/Psammobatescare.htm
Please make every efort in your reach to make shure he trives. You are keeping something that is very especial and rare;) Please keep us updated how he´s doing:D

actually,
hes doing great for the past few mths.
ive read that article before. thanks!

this i only an idea but if you could get those other torts. you could try and breed them. a captive breed tent tortoise would be worth a lot more than a star tort.
