I would recommend getting a job at the nearest mojor fish store ... if possible in management ... during that time start using your income to start getting supplies needed for your own store ... this way you get 2 see how a sucessful fish store is ran plus you can probably also get stuff u need from the store's wholesale suppliers... let me know what u think of my advice... also giives you a chance to meet possible clientel

thanks for the advice guys. i have decided not to import atfs from congo; unless someone offers me a much better deal than 10,000 to 15,000 per order. sound advice from everyone.

Steven Pro did a lecture on starting your own store. He couldn't stress enough how important it was to actually work in a LFS for at least a year. Learn what it's really like to deal with the customers.

sorry. i thought you were taking a jab at me. i'm 30. fishkeeping is a hobby/obsession for me. I spoke with an exotic fish seller. this is what he said:

for between $10,000 and $15,000 one buys a crate of fishes from the congo. many of the fishes die in transport. but death is calculated into cost. within the thousands of fishes in this import are a few "oddball" atfs. if you get lucky you get a lot of atfs. if you are not so lucky, you dont get any atfs. if you get very lucky you get a lot of goliaths.


shipping to california is better than shipping to the east coast. ther are only two stops in shipping fish to the west coast whereas there are three stops for the east.

All is forgiven. I think it would be everyone's dream to be able to work the rest of your life with the animals you love. Too bad you are so far away, or I would stop by someday to visit. Who knows. Best of luck!!!
