Started the Ray pond this week

Go with 2 or 4 "4' T6 commercial lights" and build your own housing. You seem to have the handyman part down so this should be a snap for you. 4' are cheaper than 8' and commercial lighting is cheaper than aquarium trade.

I agree buy a couple of those the sell for around $15 in the US and just put them into a canopy. Wont be that hard and will look nice.

the underwater lights really wont have a lot of penetration. I know I could build some lights easily, but it is the estheatics that I could not finish

How are you finishing the outside of your pond. Build a box basically, finish the same as your pond outside and add a diffuser of some sort on the bottom. You definetley have the ability. What type of lights are you looking at? Do you have a picture?

I have thought about doing a canopy like a pool table style. I am using fake Rundle Ledge stone around the outside of the pond and continuing a lvl line around the room. also above the pond will be rundle ledge around the window. I don't think I would have any difficulties building a light, but again it is the shear sleekness of the cora light.

I have almost finished insulating and putting on the outer shell. All of the internal plumbing is complete. I nicked the black flex hose with the jig saw because I was being stupid. it was late and I should have stopped working at the time.

a 3" ball valve is supposed to go under the two two inch; however, I bought the wrong 3" pipe, so I could not install it for the pic.

I also bught the wrong mount for the door hinges for above the lights, but you can see the cut outs.

I tried to take a pic and show off the weak accent lights at the bottom. The accually do a better job than I thought, but lets wait and see how much the water effects them.

I am so close to being done I can taste it. one week after grouting I can add water. the last of the grout will be finished tomorrow.

it's looking great buddy, those lights are nice and bright, i think even with all the water in they will still be quite bright.

I took the time to have a look at the link. You have a good point. I think I am just being pig headed and better make a light canopy. it would only be a fraction of the cost.
