anybody use a marine pain for sealing before ?

i'm wondering if i can skimp on further fibeglassing.

Just my 2 cents, but if you can get Sweetwater Epoxy Paint, then use it. I talked to someone here and verified it with Sherwin WIlliams that their epoxy is Potable...for 5000 gallon holding tanks.

lol that makes no sense at all unless 1 gallon was meant to cover a 5000 gallon tank it shouldn't affect potency because you would be covering the same amount of area.

the product is rated for steel and steel won't leak so the question was will it stop wood from leaking wood will absorb water and leak if it is not well sealed.

i think the paint will addhese better without fiberglassing but what i don't know is if it will actually stop water from coming threw.

so option 1 is try the paint by itself and see what happens (scary)

option 2 is fiberglass paint and deal with the peeling (it will peel a little) but it will work.

i see i checked out you thread and it appears you did use an epoxy paint for sealing without gel or fiberglass.

is this correct ?

Yes, I did not use fiberglass. The Sweetwater epoxy is made for this particular use and is potable no matter the size. As far as the Sherwin Williams paint it was explained to me that it will leech chemicals into the water, and the gallon rating (ie 50,000 gallons) is the EPA acceptable amount and less than that would be toxic.

Hope this makes sense, I am rushing to work right now.

because the dealer is located in the states and i'm canada they told me shipping could be very expensive about 60 dollars they estimated that would more than double the cost of the sherwin williams paint.

well decided to order the sweet water paint (havn't ordered yet) the amount of fiberglass i would need would cover the shipping cost.

the hardest part seems to be visualizing what the hood is going to look like i see alot for glass tanks but having a tough time seeing the plywood ones.

looks interesting, sorry if i missed something, are going to seal it just with paint,or are supplementing fiberglass or other material?
