Well, okay, but I was hoping I could wait for some rain, so the update would be a bit more impressive, but of course, since we have had tons of rain this summer, as soon as I decided to put a pond in, not a drop. The big dig is finished. It's basically impossible to get a good shot that shows the whole thing right now, because of the size, and the fact that there's very little water in it.
I climbed up to the top of the mound to take these:
Far left. There's a shovel in this picture, which gives you a sense of scale. This is the shallowest elevation.
Following the line up to the edge. You can see the second elevation in this one. Goes about 4' deep, depending on where the water line ends up.
The middle. It's hard to tell, but there's about 30' feet from where I took this picture to the bottom of the pond.
And to the far right:

Because there was so much topsoil in with the clay, my contractor had a hard time trying to put in any levels for my waterfall, so I'm going to have to cut that out myself, which is going to be a big project. I've decided to have a few loads of the excavated dirt taken away, as there's more than enough for what I want to do.
I'll need to measure, but I think the dimensions ended up being about 80' x 35' on the large end, and 80' x 20' on the smaller side, kidney'd around the middle, but I'm probably completely wrong.
The only fish I am planning to stock for now are shubunkins, due to my desire to do extensive plantings of lilies, lotus, and assorted bog plants. It wasn't my original plan, but I'm excited about it all the same. If chance should ever favor me, and allow for the purchase of the field surrounding this property, I promise you all I'll put in a ridiculously large natives pond.
I'm going to be making a large purchase of red cedar in the next few days for a special secret project of mine that will accentuate the pond nicely, I think. More pictures to come as things move along, of course. Thanks for all the support.
