On a daily basis people in NYC are getting rid of their monster tanks for like good prices and If I dont like the price I talk them down.
Trust me, people who post their aquariums on craigslist most of the time REALLY need to get rid of the tank for major reasons like a new landlord, or a new lease that prohibits the keeping of aquariums in these apartments and people become desperate to get rid of them. They wont play hard ball with me because I simply tell them "Oh well, good luck finding a buyer for that price range, call me when you have no choice but to junk it".
I usually get a call like either a few hours later after reaility sinks and they realize ok should I act stupid or take the offer while im ahead. BOOMThey call me back and I end up with like a 200 gallon tank for like 300 dollars + accessories.
This is the situation in NYC , im not saying this would work in another state where the demand of getting rid of tanks is not as high as here.
But never turn away craigslist.com its the open market where bargaining is your first and last priority for used goods in excellent conditions.![]()
I agree nothing beats Craigs list for prices but the reasons I prefer to buy new is due to dont want leaks -dont want scratches.
Some things Craigs list is great like finch's which here are $5 for baby birds and live rock which is dirt cheap compared to pet stores and pretty much everything else but glass tanks make me nervous unless new.
Look at what happened to RGDoherty his tank began to leak.
