I'll be going to Jasper National Park, Alberta (the rocky mountains) in a couple of weeks.

Suppose one wanted to steal rocks and driftwood from this park would one receive a fine or god forbid jail time for this act? Not truck loads or anything just a few pieces here and there for a particular 90 gallon tank.

Not saying I'm going to do this. :naughty::naughty::naughty::grinyes:

why.. it's a national park for a reason, if everyone one was like, "I'll take one or two pieces from this forest" well there goes the whole point of trying to PRESERVE it.

meh, your choice, just ask yourself if people keep taking bits a pieces will it be there for your children or grandchildren to admire?

Oh lordy it would take an aussie to be that sharp about it

australian has nothing to do about it mate. it's common sense. not that I really care anyway, it's in the USA, your nation, your a citizen, I suppose you can be the one that ruins it.

The park is huge covering an area of over 10,000km2 I don't think a few missing rocks and driftwood is a big deal, but I see your point. If everyone was taking stuff from it so much so that it shows a noticeable impact, then I wouldn't take anything due to moral reasons.

why do I bother man. just, I'll show your national parks with care and not move or destory or misplace or take, and I hope you return the favor if you ever find yourself in Australia...

You can either pay for some from a store which was taken from the wild or take it yourself... Either way it's getting taken from somewhere.

They don't have driftwood and rock farms where this stuff magically grows, it has to come from somewhere. Just be smart about it, don't destroy any obvious homes or habitats and don't grab anything in front of a Park Ranger. I am pretty sure there are *laws* about it but they are BS if you ask me especially in little scenarios like this. Sure if you were taking truck loads then it's not cool but a few bits isn't going to change anything. - you are taking a couple natural sticks or stones... If anyone gives you a hard time tell them to go kick rocks.

i agree with Liam...it is not for us to take but merely partake and enjoy... it is stealing no matter how trivial it may seem... and you could be fined... or worse...so is it worth it... NO... you can surely find alot of natural things around your home... yard etc... just the fact that you question yourself....you already know the answer...

Its not like im clear cutting a forest on the side of a mountain.

I tend to agree with polish on this one.
