I tend to agree with polish on this one.

Figured so.

what about how you could be takeing things that another creature is using or uses now and then for shelter, even if its just a tarantula or something it still messes with an area of protected wildlife and plants.Ive been talking with ppl in the mountains here about it to because I wanted some rocks,so I try to just take the ones from rock slides on the edge of the road because they are going to move them back to town anyways. It is a touchy subject, but you should be able to see why thier are rules. Some of the drift wood and pine cones and stuff over time breaks down im sure to help with creating such perfect soil conditions and such for all the trees and brush.Im rambling i know,Im at work and ppl are talking over me,but anyways, just some things to think about.

I collect my driftwood from a stream that runs out of a protected area, runs pretty hard in the spring so a bunch of new stuff is there every year. Its by the side of the road where theres an unofficial public swimming and fishing hole.If I wait too long most of it gets used for bonfires but every spring I get a few choice pieces.
So thats my advice to you,see if there is a non posted place just outside the park where people are fishing streams that run out of the protected area. You might find something cool.;)

I just dont think it would be worth the stuff you'd get... Chances are you will find the perfect piece of wood, but it will be dry & unusable for months while soaking, some rocks can mess with your pH, there would be an intense disinfecting process for all of it, you will be chastised by everyone who sees you collecting & you could get fined or worse. Why bother? There are some great unique peices hiding in LFS around the country or you can go collect in a more public place. Bring vinegar or lemon juice to test the rocks for reactivity & be ready to boil your wood for hours/days in a REALLY big pot. I also microwave any rocks I collect, but check for metals first!

wulfonce, you live in alberta. its not that hard to find cool rocks and driftwood up there. just take a walk through woods that are not protected

go my son and ROOOOOCKKKKK! its just a piece of wood.. go help clean the park. hehe
