I have 2 Stealth heaters for my 168 gallon tank and I must say that they are the best heaters I ever had.

Yep, lots of people used to say that.

i think its only the newer version stealth pros with the led lights that are having problems. not the original ones.

I have 4 of stealth heaters, 3 bought since August of this year and I've had no explosion or boiling problems. The only thing i noticed is one i had that was only a couple months old was showing green light when the tank was cold. I noticed when i went to change my guppy tank water and it felt really cold to my arm for vacuuming. The heater was set to 78. I changed the setting to 86 and the light still stayed green so i had to put a smaller, working heater on the tank for now.

as I said in the other thread.....I got rid of my stealth pro after reading all the horror stories ....better safe than sorry. I can't understand people that say " mine is working so far, I'll just keep an eye on". ....how stupid someone can be to keep a ticking bomb in their tank just to save 40 $ ?

Easy there. I have 6 stealth heaters and I love them. It sounds like they had some major quality issues - I had one of mine do something similar - all the plastic bubbled on the casing, but it was replaced under warranty. I think the issue is water leaking into the heater and boiling - sounds (to me) like if it lasts the first couple of months it's likely going to be fine.

Having said that, I probably wouldn't buy any more of them knowing about the quality issues.

I've NEVER had issues with Stealths while everyone boast about how good Ebo Jager heaters are, I can say that they are crap to me. 2 of the 3 I bought crapped out in less than a year and the 3rd just a little over a year. My Stealths have been working fine for many years now. One of them is actually a 5 year old heater. The newest one I got is the one with the indicator light and that's been working for a year now.

For me, it's not about a ticking time bomb or trying to save $40 (even though I see nothing wrong with saving money). I believe in the product and, again, never had issues with it. People get scared off too easily. The horror stories that you hear are one out of thousands.

but you weren't shutting them off when draining your tank :)

that might be why you had issues.

the thing is, I asked my LFS about stealths and they said two years ago they starting having customers come back with all kinds of problems, all of a sudden. Prior to that, they used to 'push them'. but not anymore.

something changed. I heard it was when they changed manufacture location and thats when all the problems started, but I can't verify.

either way, Ebo (Eheim) Jagers are even better now than they were before. thats still the only brand I trust my fish to.

the people who are long time stealth users likely have purchased their heaters BEFORE all the issues started popping up, before whatever changed for the worse, changed.

so it makes sense there are no issues with the older Stealths.

its the ones purchased in the last two years that seem to have all the trouble.

Good point. I have 4 Stealths and 3 of them are the over 2 years.

I guess with the new one I got, I'll just keep an eye on it:ROFL:
