Stealth Pro Heater Recall!!!

I exchanged 2 stealth heaters today. I didn't even know about the recall until today, only because they both died on me. Gotta give it to Petsmart (for the 1st time), they gave me 2 new heaters of my choice, no questions asked. Kinda nice cuz I didn't have funds today to get new ones. Kinda blows my mind that I didn't know these were blowing up in peoples tanks.....

Returned (4) 250W's at PetSmart for $39.99 ea in store credit yesterday. Took about 15 minutes as the first cashier and manager were not familiar with issue, but then another cashier came by, explained and gave them the SKU's to use for return.

Don't shop there much, but they are only 10 minutes from my house so will definitely use the store credit soon enough.

thanks to MFK and this thread I was able to save myself $82 and change by returning two non-working 200W Stealth (not Stealth Pro) heaters to Petsmart.

I was zapped by one of the heaters about a year ago and luckily I threw it in a storage bin and not in the trash. Last night during a water change I was zapped by the second one. I had a power outage a few days ago and the heater was the only piece of equipment not plugged into a surge protector. I think that may have had something to do with it. Anyways, I took them both back to Petsmart, kindly declined their store credit and asked for cash back, and was given cash back.

Now I just need to decide which new heater to get

Is it all marineland heaters? Or just certain marineland models.

The Aqueon shatterproof is meant to be the original "Stealth" design and should be good to go.

It is only certain models of the Stealth Pro; the notice I have lists the 50W - 250W. The Stealth Pros smaller than 50W and the 300W are not affected....although I wasn't risking it.

The normal Stealths are also not affected, but Petsmart allowed me to trade these in as well. I've already lost a couple stealths and have since switched to Jagers.

wow, well it looks like i won't be buying a stealth heater anytime soon! its shocking!

i have the 300.. does that mean i can change it, or is my heater fine

this is what happened to mine last year. smelled ozone and heard a whistling sound, then a KRUMP somewhat similar to a grenade underwater and tons of debris.
