I got this crazy idea, and its most likely a bad one, or technicaly its not my idea, i heard it somewhere else, and started thinking about it :) Well, here it is: Could you use large stainless steel boxes for ponds?. I though something like 250 x 150 x 75 cm. Do you Guys think it would hold? Its made for ships, so it can stand saltwater.

cant see why not, stainless is inert isn't it??

I do believe stainless steel is safe. I know the horse trough ones at tractor supplies leech over time but those I believe are galvanized steel (not stainless steel for sure)

And yeah stainless steel doesn't rust

I meant inert as in doesn't react at all, inc leaching chemicals and rusting.

Could probably go massive, are you gonna add a glass panel, that may be an issue as the stainless will flex?

Just keep in mind heating. Glass and especially acrylic are much better insulators than stainless steel. Whatever power rating you would need to heat your tank will have to be higher for a metal tank. Other than that if stainless steel was in any way reactive or harmful we wouldnt make sinks, etc out of it. And yes I understand whats harmful for fish and people are often different things

I know that glass and acrylic is better, but there comes a time when the "needs" exceed the budget ;) and you have to find a cheaper solution, im gonna have to face that might happend, :l
