That definitely looks like a sterlet to me. Nice fish

Definately a sterlet, i wouldnt add salt ive raised them in the past from 3 inches to adult size in an outdooor pond with ph6 feeding sinking pellets and shrimp, oh and when there that small feed them a high protein pellet as their prone to curved spine especialy at that size.

What "high protein" pellet do you recommend? He has started feeding on Omega One sinking shrimp pellets. Are they high enough in protein?

Also...thanks for the confirmation on the species. I was 99% sure it was a sterlet based on my own research, but it's always nice to have multiple opinions.

Awesome little fish! If they didn't get so big I'd definitely get one.

They dont get too big...2-3 foot...although that may be pushing the limits on most aquariums.

He really started eating tonight! It's been eating shrimp like crazy!

I like to use tetra pond sterlet sticks they have the highest protein concerntration i have seen in sturgeon food but anything with over 45% will be fine also what size tank are you planning on keeping it in when fully grown as i know they dont get that big but they are very active and i have always kept them in 12x6x4 pond but i would recomend a minimum of 700 gallons.
