Stiinger question

I have a ray, there is 2 stingers, which one is the one thats going to come off? top one or the bottom one?

The top one is going to fall off and they move up in it's place. You can still inject yourself with venom up to a month after the stinger has been shed. I had a dead ray in the freezer and when i grabbed the bog poked myself with the stinger and it sure in the hell hurt.

Shed barbs will still do almost as much damage as an intact animal. The only way to safey "clean" it is to boil them. The catalyst for the venom is a complex protein that is tempature dependant. That is why we say run a barb related injury under the hottest water you can stand. That action breaks it down faster.

On our ray the bottom stinger fell off and the top one took it's place.

The catalyst is protein based. So not really a true protein as most would think of that term being used.
