Hmm .. Good thing that's just your opinion;) your right, no umbee can compare with a rio mag, as in each location or whatever brings it's own uniqueness to the table. But here very soon if not already, the Rio Mag will be passed up:) I can guarantee that if I didn't label my umbees that None of you could tell me which location they are:) I will continue to label my magx males as such because I already have but I'm very close to not labeling collection point on any more. More or less calling them blue umbees, wether rio mag, locx, magx, magz, ultimate blue... Just to prove that it shouldnt matter where your umbee came from to be the best. Just to level the playing field and to show that umbees are magnificent regardless where they come from:)

Not to mention that the general has played a huge role in these magx etc;) lol

Jason that's a good way to ruin the umbees In the hobby as has the Trimac been ruined by flowerhorns. Labeling the specific umbees is what separates them from everything else and that there are so many awesome strains and that they have been properly labeled so far so people have been keeping umbees have been informed.

Keep with that mentality and in a few years the pure umbee will be a thing of the past no matter the quality of the umbees in the hobby. Welcome to the world of the Umbeehorn everyone.

Very nice pics. and an awesome fish (OP). To all (long-term) owners of Umbees: you guys are lucky to have the tank space needed to keep such a wonderful fish. Someday I hope to get a tank large enough to keep one, and possibly with other parachromis and amphilophus.

I just made a statement to get you thinking. I wouldn't really do that, come on... I just think it's funny that a lot of people are stuck in their ways and don't like change. Put the shoe on the other foot and let's say that it wasn't rio mags brought in initially maybe locx or something and that's all anyone has ever seen till recently. Then everyone would be saying locx is the best yada yada. And what I'm doing with umbees is nothing like trimacs and flowerhorns!! I'm keeping the blues, blue and the gorillus, gorillus. Others have made the hybrid of gorillus with blue. Not my fault. I can't still guarantee purity In locations because there will still be people who only want pure location. Hmm let's look at vendors and maybe go into if some of their fish are being properly labeled???? I think not all are and does it really matter because lately all I hear is people screaming it doesn't matter because at the end of the day all that matters is if you like your fish!!!:)

No one said they don't like change Jason. My opinion is that I prefer the mags over all the other variants. Doesn't mean I don't love all the other variants as well.. Just means I have a preference and others have stated the same way. Nothing more. If mags were brought in last they still would be my favorite.

Lol that's cool:) I love mags too. I am just saying that when it comes to umbees not Festae;) I don't think that either location is really superior to the other. Now with different opinions on what people look for in an umbee will determine what location they prefer.

that's why ppl buy wild fish no?

So why you worry about your fish being location xyz or not? Why you dislike Peru Festae but hype up Ecuador Festaes?

"Rio magdelena" Umbee strain is a natural strain.
You want ppl to pass up Rio Mags from your fish looking like one but really not. lol that sucks.

idc. I like me a nice Umbee and I got me one.. Natural strain kept since it's there

Yes that's exactly why people buy wild. I'm not worried about locx,z, magz, magx, rio mag or whatever. And what in doing with the blue umbee is designing what I perceive that the perfect blue umbee looks like. Everyone's opinion matter as I should have the genetics I need to try and cater to everyone's wants and desires:) as far as the Festae thing goes, I'm really over it . My side mostly was about the Ecuador vs Peruvian that was in the hobby during the time of debate. And who can really prove what is actually Ecuador or Peruvian without collecting them themselves? We can only believe what is told to is by people selling them. I have changed my mind about the whole Festae kick from things I learned over the last couple years which is why I don't have them ATM. And it's been proven that regardless of location there are specimens that stand out more than others. My opinion in what I like come from what I've seen being referred to as Peru vs Ecuador and making my decision from that

Nobody is saying one is superior to other. But I will say this, I see quite a difference in body shape and color when Comparing the Rio Mag to lets say a Gorillus. I think its the same with Dovii, I prefer the longer body of the Costa Rican Dovii compared to the Nic dovii.
Same with the Umbee, I prefer the longer body to the shorter more pronounced snout body of the Gorillus. Just my opinion.
