What FH are you using it on? I have black/black tanks but they're not FH tanks. And I would not put my Kamalau or RD in black/black. Already done that as that's how the tanks they are in were set up and they look like crap IMO in that setting. Hell try it I don't care. But your fish will look very dark. And it won't show how nice your fish actually is. Keep your FH ph at 5.0 too while you're at it since we don't care how the fish looks more about how the tank looks.

Black/Black awesome on some fish. But put some FH in it and it looks too dark, don't see the color of the fish/etc. It's obvious black/black makes your fish look dark, white/white makes it look washed out.

If I wanted black sand I'd at least try to use a blue back..
did i hit a nerve? damn! didnt realize this was in the FH section, i dont have any so i guess i cant comment

just to keep my questions rolling, has anybody used red colorquartz with a white background? i found some red kicking around last night and wonder if that would be ok with a lighter background. i hope this isn't pissing anybody off with all my questions. believe me when i say i just want to do it right the 1st time.

Didn't hit a nerve. Really I have a hard enough time getting people to listen and learn something about FH's as it is. Just don't need people thinking you're saying black/black on FH is awesome and correct.. 'cause really like I said unless it's a fader(JK, SRT, Parrot) it's too dark to show all the pearls most of the time and it alters the fish's base color also can have an affect on kok as well.

FH is a very specialized fish when it comes to tank setup. It's a little more than just throwing a fish in a tank. Special rules need to be followed if you want your FH to look decent.

So no nothing against you. No nerve hit. Just want the right information going around.

To the person who asked Red would probably work as well or any other color. Try the white background and see how it looks. Could be ok with colored substrate. If not you can always change it out then.

I had to put my 4" flowerhorm in a 55 for a week with black sand and background and he look aweful. The pink on his head and body turned a drab green. When I got his new tank setup it came with a painted black background, I left it and used PFS and he colored up nicely. So, listen to cichlaguapote.

Someone who gets what I'm saying.. Same thing happened to my Kamalau.. I knew it was going to happen but took me a day or two to get the stuff to change it. Thanks bro.. :)

cichla, i get you on the black/black. i just want something that looks good to the eye BUT is benefitial to the fish in the end.
