Still Don't Understand FX5 Mania?

Do most of you feel the GPH more than makes up for a lack in some volume? I mean I want and will get a Eheim 2262 or 2080 at some point. It's a personal thing I don't need it, but I just want it if any of you can get where I'm coming from. I just need to wait for a time when I can do it and keep my house and possibly my health:drool:

I'd prefer a 2262 as well. But I can get 2 for the price of one with the FX5 and why would I need 15 liters of bio. Your tank would need to be severely overstocked. I just can't bring myself to pay that amount of money for one filter.

I think the FX5 holds enough volume. The turn over rate is nice but it's not 925gph when loaded with media.I run both of mine with prefilter media in the top basket and biomax in the middle and bottom basket. The flow rate is still really good even with it loaded with media.

Do you even keep fish? or own a tank large enough to experience the power of filters you speak of? They seem out of your league bro.

Sorry to be so outgoing with this post but you are making some great points. I to ordered my FX5 in place of the Eheim (again this is just me) I mean $250 compared to $450 is so much easier to swallow. I can't tell you how many times I've been sitting here with the Ehiem picked out with my finger on the order button. Then I read a post about a person who just hooked up there XP4 or new Aquatop. You know it sit here and look at my Marineland and have to ask what more is that other filter going to give me that this one dosn't? I also will be doing a sump soon within a year but I'll tell you what my next system is going to be planed and ready to go long before I set it up.

Will Oscars do? Also the title of this forum is monister fish not monister tank. Like most folks we all start somewhere. Does 40 years of keeping mostly Cichlids sould like enough experance? I had fish long before allot of these folks where even born. Now do I know everything about the latest and greatest heck no!!! I would not be on here otherwise. Nor do I consider myself a Forum God who when I post the whole forum is suppose to stop and say Yes Sir!!

I agree the fx5 is the best bang for the buck I have 2 on my 265 gallon along with a sump, and a 25watt uv. I think that using a fx5 with a high turnover sump works great. I have tried and used many different types of filters, the ac110 for hob is the best bang for the buck and its really a one time investment no need to buy replacement cartridges. I really like my home made filters better they are overall cheaper and I think they do a better job hold way more bio and are easier to clean. But my favorite filter that I think is money well spent and is even easier to maintain and clean, the glass filter I bought from wlim less than $500 and wlim pump around $400 3k gph on a 300 gallon tank 10x turnover and I never have to open it up and clean anything just turn the valve and backflush the filter. So water change and filter cleaning all at the same time I ablsolutely love it. Only thing I will add the this setup is a 54watt uv sterilizer from wlim simple and awesome filtration.

First off please don't compare anything marineland to fluval and fx5. Marineland is **** IME. Shocked my fish, never will buy their products again.

Secondally bedrick is really my father and I love him dearly ;)
Joking aside he is a good guy who is brutally honest, that can be good at times, but to each his own, I respect the man.

Fx5 beats the hell out or any filter in that price range imo, 2262 is 10-15% better but for the price difference no thanks! My fx5 keeps my 125 squeky clean, combined with a LG sponge filter and 1450korila EVO and pothos, couldn't be happier! If I had unlimited resources id have that 2262.

Cheers
