Still lost looking for a pump

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Same pump I had.

You can also install a ball valve on the output of the pump to regulate flow.

Please keep us posted on how it works out for you.

Same pump
U had? What happen to urs?

Yeah, the customer service at Reeflo was great, but I had a string of pumps that leaked. I found the HHG to be really noisy (it had a loud industrial motor hum to it), whereas the Super Dart Golds were very quiet (although they leaked too).

It sounds like I just was unlucky and got a batch of pumps that were lemons, but after a few months of dealing with the leaks I decided to change over to submersible (since they don't have seals that will leak).

If you have any issues, Reeflo will take care of you. Just keep an eye on the seal for drips.

Quick tip: Try placing the pump on a mouse pad to dampen vibration noise.

Scary stuff ...did they leak outta the box or over time? How is the heat transfer ?

Scary stuff is right. IF I read this thread I'd be scared to buy ANY pump with a seal...... lmao.

Luckily for me it's too late, I already have a basement full of "leaky seals" and "high power consumption"

Never been happier....... :)

I have an older reeflo barracuda/hammerhead hybrid, Honestly its a great pump. been super happy with it as its reliable as could be and never has caused me a problem. But I also have been playing in the made in china pumps trying some low wattage to claiming high flow. So far they have been good and I really enjoy them and the flow is good and the power savings is really good. I wonder about running a Ultima 4k-6k like that with a couple of these pumps tied together, I know its not how they recommend using them but we all seem to make things work you just have to be creative about it sometimes. I would say a reeflo will be a great pump, If you can swing the cost and power usage you will be happy with it.

I think DB was trying to be funny/sarcastic. Doesn't sound like he actually read what I wrote...I recommended the HHG, so not sure where the snarkiness is coming from.

There are some people on here who think external direct drive pumps are the only way to go; they aren't. In your case, the HHG is perfect for your setup...I think it's a good move getting one.

The reason I suggested the HHG for your setup is because it fits your needs pretty nicely and if there is an issue, Reeflo stands behind their product. I am convinced that I was just really unlucky and ran across a bad batch of pumps. I replaced the seals myself on a few, had Reeflo replace seals and they sent me new pumps over the course of several months and I finally gave up on them. I felt kinda bad because they probably spent more on postage shipping pumps and seals to and from (yes, they sent pre-paid shipping labels) my house than the pumps were actually worth. Again, A+ on customer service and that's why even after all the issues I would give them another shot if I had a setup that required the flow that an HHG delivers.

In regards to the power consumption, their old flow charts showed that the max wattage was 291 watts, but when I tested mine at about 9' of head, it came out to 331 watts. It's not a huge difference, but with my sky-high electric rates that's about $10 more per month. I was disappointed in this and mentioned this to Reeflo's rep at the time. It looks like they have updated their flow chart to reflect more accurate figures. Just to be clear, Reeflos are not bad in regards to power consumption; you can definitely do worse. But their smaller models are less efficient than Lagunas and that's one reason I often recommend Lagunas for traditional gravity fed sumps where high head pressure ratings are not needed.

You should be fine with your new pump. I wouldn't worry about a catastrophic failure; I have only heard of that happening once and I've done tons of reading up on them. Sorry if my experience has you concerned, but not sure what to tell you or DB...it is what it is.

 lol good to know...thx for the details!!! Just because of ur experience I will be making sure the pump is visible and easy serviceable. Now I have decided to filter 2 tanks with one system. Tanks will be 750gal and a 400 gallon. Filtered with a ultima 1000 and 18inches sand filter. Now what's the options to control flow rate from the 2 intakes. 750 will need more flo of course then the 400. I no ur not suppose to put ball valves on the intake side of the pump..what other options are their to control the intake on the 2 tanks?
