Stingers

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would say no as they grow back anyway. Are you scared of getting stung? If so dont step on your rays then! As long as you do that you should be fine as they are actually quite docile and easily can be hand fed and touched.

Not to mention the stress that you would put the ray through in netting, grabbing the tail, and clipping the barb. Best course of action is to leave well enough alone :).

this is what they do at sea world to make sure nobody gets stung...i saw them do it on tv

Yah I saw that too...with bat rays iirc...

From watching it though, it looks like the bat rays dealt with handling a lot better than a motoro or leopoldi, etc. would.

well the water conditions (and diet) they are kept in are far superior to the water conditons (and diet) we keep our rays in.

so the procedure would be much less stressful in the perfect environment.

if you are scared of the rays sting dont keep them as i dont think anyone should keep anything they are scared of

I wouldn't be so scared of them. They will only sting you if they feel threatened by something in the tank. Remember they dont use it to kill prey do they and don't use it aggressively, but defensively. They only use the sting as a last resort anyway, because once they've used it they have no other form of defence.

Carl.

if you get stung what should you do?.........my ray once flung his tail at me when I accidently put the gravel vaccum on tom of him.....it was sort of funny (all my roommates laughed at me while I was trying to tell them the severity of what just happened)..........i'm deffinately not scared of him, but if he did sting me by chance.....What happens?? Is it much like getting pricked be the fins of a birchir..... because I've had that happen to me once. I got a 102 fever and then woke up the next morning fine.
