Stingray Biting...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm not adding anything to the water.. just keeping it clean.

I refuse to own melafix/pimafix. Junk IMO.

Agreed and i am in the same boat... my big male kept biting my little female.. had to seperate and she is trying to grow disk back but it looks weird... does anyone else notice this with theirs? I wanna make sire o am doing everything to the best for her
.. she is in a separate tank now but not eating... what should i do? Please i don't wanna lose my little girl... the tank is a 220 with a 65gallon custom sump... and she is in the sump by herself to recover but i am still worried..

yes, sneary. it's like any wound, it will grow back but takes time. first the tissue will grow back, then the patterning (though it might be a little off from previous appearance). it takes quite a while to regrow i've found. mine has been regrowing her disc for about 2 months now and is not completed, but you can definitely tell she's getting there. just divide them, plenty of clean water, and give her time.

i used eggcrate to section the tank in half, so that way they still have room. try doing this with eggcrate cut to near tank width and height, and use suction cups to keep it up. it will give her more room than your 65 gal sump will, she can still see/interact with the other ray through the eggcrate, they just can't really get at each other. i find they stay social if you do it this way.

i agree mshill, mela/pimafix are both worthless. waste of money and provide no benefits other than green tea smelling water.

I have my female divided by the eggcrate. I kinda ruled it out as her as she is the only one without some kind of mark on her.

If she is mature, and the other aren't, could that be the reason?

I used melafix ONCE on my frontosa colony, and as soon as it got through the tank they were all at the top gasping for air. The scare of my life! Almost a full, brand new bottle got pitched.

Have used melafix with no problem, worked like a charm here. How big is the female were talking about? since you wondered if she was mature. About putting a ray in a sump, since a sump is alot smaller then the main tank, i gues the flow through there is very high, is that so possitive with an allready stressed ray?

If you wanna use Melafix, that's a-ok with me.. I just know that I personally won't own another bottle, and nothing is going to change that.

As for her size, she is bigger than my male a bit, so she is at least 13".

usually it's the males biting the disc when mature, because that's how they work on flipping the females for insemination.
could be a form of aggression from the female onto the others, maybe lack of room or something the that ray is mad about.
not sure to be honest.

No my male is biting my female..male is 13" and female is only like 8" my sump is huge... but i moved her into a 125 by herself but i noticed what i would call a peeling look on her skin and eyes.... keep.coming with ideas.. i don't wanna lose this girl...
