Well it looks like so far the brown rays out of Brazil have landed. Prices seem fair too, not too much more then pre-ban prices!!!

A tiny 3-4" Wild caught brown ray that landed may be the riskiest way to go of all.. CB all the way! If you have a program, grab some fresh blood. If you want a pet for the hobby, go CB!

Hystrix have the lowest after catch mortality rate of any potamotrygon, a testiment to their toughness. Id gladly take four w/cs and start my own program then one CB for about the same price.

If CB were just 1.5-2x the price then Id go for it but so far that isnt the case.

Hi Nick,
your really wrong ;)
Hystrix were allways very tough before the ban.
Not to compare with the sensitive P.reticulatus

So there are some hystrix showing up the in US now? Definitely wouldn't mind getting my hands on some of them! It'd be nice to see a couple people start breeding them and having them more available.

day of the dinosaur,,, 3-4 years ago lol

they always enforced it,,, Ibama checked all boxes and marked with special tape....

Im sure it was a case of money makes people look the other way... escpecially in 3rd world countries..

do you think people will not pay off Ibama inspecters? there is plenty to gain on their end if the rays are selling for 1000 plus per ray...

you are a brazilian exporter,,, you have an order for 100 rays at 1000 each thats 100k you pay the inspector 1k to look away and mark em as a dif type of ray... doesnt seem like such a stretch to me.

Back in the day of dinosaur when quota was full they would just keep shipping illegal ones, that was main reason for ban if the quota was 5000 they figured that it was more like 10-15,000 leaving they would not stop and Brazil was not enforcing the law. Now they are enforcing the law, but question is when qouta is full with they stop?

Now that rays are becoming available why are people who breed them or have an interest financially etc telling people not to buy em and leave them to the breeders?
