i try to always feed freshwater products to my rays....

Agreed. Marine life store fats and proteins differently than freshwater animals. That process makes digesting them harder as well. I think it is one sure path to fatty liver disease.

Why would you be worried about calcium when most pellets contain whole herring meal or whitefish meal? I just bought a ray specifically because it was on pellets. With my work I'm on the road a lot -10 days on and 4 days off. My wife is busy and doesn't have time for feeding or sourcing out all of these other types of food ergo pellets are the food of choice. I will admit that the ray I bought does appear to be very fat. I don't think its from the type of pellets but is likely a direct result of overfeeding. I never would've bought this fish six months ago. It was incredibly thin and only about a 6" disc. Today its a very fat 10" ray. I plan on cutting feedings in half for the first little while. The problem is that most people feed too much pellets, too often. If I see a decline in this rays health at any time, while in my care, I will give him to someone who has more time to dedicate to its special feeding requirements.

Ghost shrimp are treated like rosy reds (not to well) whenever you bring new fish into a tank you risk introducing parasites from the wild in. Ghost shrimp on thier own, arnt to nutritional but like nic said earlier he is going to gut load them ( feed pellets) which would give them more vitimins and mor nutrition

yes everytime i got boxes of ghost shrimp water smelled fowl and they were same as me getting box of feeders...
i wont be using ghost shrimps, but yes i treat them the same way... regular crays offer more nutritional value....

I have a nice contact close buy to get a few thousand pounds of live rainbow trout for free. I was wondering if this could make a good food source for my rays.I may try it in a controlled feeding experiment.
