Stingray in a 70g?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah, Thanks man. I was going to put something like a pair of cichlids in. I was going to choice a pair of sevs but they would rip up the plants and I kind of want to keep a planted tank. I'm just stuck on bottom feeders .

Cichlids and rays don't make good tank mates usually. And rays will just dig plants up for the fun of it....

Tons of people mix chiclids with rays.

Yeah a ton of people do a bunch of stupid things all the time that doesn't make it the best thing in the world now does it? I have had balas, silver dollars, tin foil barbs, clown loaches, and rainbows in with my rays. Everything eventually picked on them especially once they start breeding and they beat each other up a tad then they just pick at all the areas on the rays that are already picked at and it goes bad pretty fast. If you notice most (not all) of the ray keepers that are breeding rays have ray only tanks....there may just be a reason for this. And I believe it says in one of the stickies the best tank mates for rays.....is more rays :) I will never say I know it all but i know a fair bit when it comes to rays. I got my first retic in 2004 and now I have one of the only mature retics anybody has ever seen top that off with as far as I know I have the only breeding retics anywhere what I am doing must be working. Never said it's the only way but after trial and error and time I can tell you I have a ray only tank not because I wanted it to be that way but because thats what worked.

I've kept rays with different cichlids and they mostly keep to themselves. SD are dangerous if they are a school since they tend to nip on the rays all others that you mentioned are what is call here as food to rays since they fit perfectly in their mouth. and FYI it's impossible that you are the only one who has a breeding pair of rectics, maybe in your town but certainly not here.

Like I said I haven't heard or seen them. Find me other CB retics?? PS my original SN on here was grapedinox but MFK won't let me log onto that SN for some reason I have tried everything. And the fish I described that I had in my tank were all Non food size shoot my balas were all over 12+ inches same with the tin foils. My clown loaches were over 7+ inches when I sold them. ANd my silver dollars were 6+ inches around and an inch thick. I took fish nobody else could house because they had outgrown their tanks. But were easily housed in my 750. But please find me some more 14+ mature retics that are breeding successfully and I will gladly eat my words she is currently expecting her 6th litter and we have had and sold 16 pups currently.

WOW I even did a google search for CB retics pups...... and guess what I am the only person that comes up. But maybe I am just not looking in the right area???

Drew, I have seen one other poster on here breed them...can't remember who though and you are right it is VERY rare. Rays do seem to do best on their own but it can be done. I would not take any risks with rays.

I think breeders are going after the more rare and expensive species to breed!

Regardless that's pretty impressive and I'm sure you know what your doing! But there's a difference between show tanks and breeding tanks, I personally think a big tank of rays, dats, chicla etc is extremly beautiful!

If mfk won't let you log in then your acct was banned or suspended, maybe it was inactive for too long.

BTW lemme see a pic of that 750!

I wasn't banned it just keeps saying I have the wrong password, I request a new password and use it and it still says it is wrong. Its crazy. My tank is very much a show tank. It is sink into the wall of my living room with professional intricate wall trim encasing it. I never meant to be a breeder it just happened. I now have 3 mature retics, and a mature Hystrix and mature pearl, I have 2 mature female henlei coming in next week from stan. I don't like even being refered to as a "beeder" I have my rays because I love them and they are my families pets. New tank build projected to start March 2013 1400 gal
