thats the pond my friend built... cheap simple strong ya cant go wrong... its for sale for a hundred bucks too but your a lil far away

This is exactly what im looking at doing. Will a standard 40gallon sump be ok for filtration or will I need to but a new one? Can anyone help explain how to filter a pond like this?

joe has his filter set up in there.... i prefer deeper tanks for sumps for the just in case plus they allow for more options;submerged media...... rubbermaid container would work great

agreed however its better then keeping them in the 125 or 180 u had them in before...

Im almost positive I will be going 8'x4'x2' as long as I can find the lumber at that size because I dont want to cut it at all.
My other qusetion, is a 40 gallon sump ok to filter this pond or am I going to need to get a bigger filter?
Also where can I find a heater for this pond and what will that cost me about?

joe ran 2 250W stealths and was fine... he shows his cover filter and all in that thread.... the system worked/works great
