Stingray Pricing Thread

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
all i think is if you or anyone else is spending £1k on a ray then you should know if the ray is healthy or not

price means a lot to most people or we would all shop at waitrose or M&S but most people don't they buy from cheaper shops because of price

just because you earn good money doesn't mean you should waste it or we would all pay £50 for a bus ride just because we can

the high end ray market is not that big in the UK i can only think of a handful of people who would pay £1k+ for a ray and most of the people who spend big $$$$$$ of fish do marine

...and if you do not? My bank balance and the amount I am willing to spend on a ray has no relation to the knowledge I have of Rays.

If you spent £100,000 on a Ferrari would you need to know how to rebuild the engine or would you just buy from a quality dealer as apposed to the same looking £70,000 Ferrari from the back street garage?

I have kept fish for over 20 years, I have contributed to books and I have bred some very rare fish, I have also run 2 LFS BUT I know nothing about Rays in terms of spotting quality or health and therefore if you spend £1000 (in my case on a pair) and you admit to not knowing enough then you need the advice of a trusted expert, much the same as you asked for advice from many on here with your sick Ray.

I hate waste of any sort, especially my hard earned money...I could do a tax return in my sleep but I still pay a high end Accountant as he saves me more than I spend.

I know a lot about how a human body works, what each organ does and what it looks like, I can also do plumbing but if I did open heart surgery on you then you would die...pay the surgeon!:grinno:

my point is if you are going to spend £1k+ on rays then you should do plenty of resurch so you know what you are buying and the health of the animal you are buying

i dont know about you but i own a dog and i know its meant to have 4 legs 2 ears and a tail you can not compair animals to cars sorry

This is going round in circles and spoiling the thread.

You Pays your money and you takes your chance, IMO it is better to spend the correct amount than buy too cheap and end up spending the money you should have done in the first place - a similar quote used to come with clear seal fish tanks!

I do not see why you cannot compare Animals to Cars or anything else in the context of my example,- I do as much research as I can and the best research comes from what....trusted advice?

If you found out you had a life threatening illness would you pay for the best Doctor you could afford or a cheap student that had just qualified?

I will now end the banter as we obviously will not agree.

anything i sell i sell at what i feel is a fair market price

im not that bothered about my rep as im not a big time ray seller

i have seen people say they would pay more if the seller had a good rep well a rep means nothing to me if the price is double market price

good rep bad rep if you are spending £1k on a ray you should know if its in good health or not

this is just my opinion

This is a good example of why someone would pay more if the seller has a good rep ;)

your example is flawed ALL the aros in that thread were brought from a large well know farm who are meant to have a good rep

just because the price is high doesn't always mean the standard of the fish is great

if you put 2 x BD back to back and one was priced at £1k and the other at £2k both rays are both in good health but the £2k ray comes from a seller with a better rep which would you buy

i bought a retic for 50 bucks
