your example is flawed ALL the aros in that thread were brought from a large well know farm who are meant to have a good rep

just because the price is high doesn't always mean the standard of the fish is great

if you put 2 x BD back to back and one was priced at £1k and the other at £2k both rays are both in good health but the £2k ray comes from a seller with a better rep which would you buy
How can you tell a fish in good health? You're not a vet, or neither you can run test on the fish at the time you buy it, assume you buy it in person. Best you, or me, or most if not all the fish keeper can do is tell by looking at it, that it doesn't look skinny. Once you get it home, and it doesn't eat, acting funny, then that's when you'll get worry or panic... Wonder if it's your husbandry or if it's the fish that's not in good health. And if you buy it's online, then forget about it! All you see is a picture! So, does reputation mean anything now?

rep means nothing to me and not worth paying double the market price for

lots of private sellers out their who don't post on forums and just post on the classified adds they don't have any rep at all does that mean no one will buy the rays

like i have said before i sold a pearl pup last month for half the price others are selling pearls for just because I'm not a big time seller with a rep does that make the pup not worth buying

i wouldn't buy a ray on line and i would pick it up in person

if the seller can send you a pic then they can send you a video of it feeding

it also comes down to the case of who you know..if you know the right people you will always get the better deal!

The problem with buying in Canada is there is not a big ray community and everyone who is into rays usually lives hundreds of miles away and when you want any ray besides a motoro or rectic you will need to get it shipped from somewhere and it is all done across the internet so I know for myself I went with a person who did have a good name. I know of people in Canada who are mislabeling rays and they're history to make a sale. So for a place like Canada a rep is very important.
