Stingray tail need help....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for the help guys Ill bump up my water changes to more frequent ones... The "fungus" problem on her tail has been getting better but part of her tail did come off because of it... But it looks like its all healed up and she is still very active.

If you have been feeding crawdads and rosies it would be wise to do a Prazi treatment AFTER the water quality issue is addressed. Feeding nightcrawlers is messy. To avoid fungal problems the filters need to be cleaned frequently. The sand in the tank also needs to be shallow. The shallower the better. I don't use any deeper than 1/4 inch. If it begins getting worse then start reading up on Binox and get some on hand if you need it. There's not much time from when it gets noticebly worse till it's too late to bring them back. If this fungus looks to be spreading, or the slime coat begins turning grey actions gonna be required quickly.

Be cautious not to change too much water at once. Your ray doesn't sound like it's going to be used to big WCs and may not take to them well if you start doing too much too often.

Really need pics to help.

If you don't mind me asking where did you get a captive bred Marble Motoro around here? I was not aware of anyone in IA with Marbles, let alone captive bred ones.

I got her from my girlfriends moms boss... They put a hystrix male with a motoro female and they had babies and they have a marbled motoro look to them... They look great but not like some of the marbles you see out there. Are you from Iowa as well? What do you have for stingrays, what size tank?

post some pix man! i wanna see what they look like, that also explains why your ray is so small..... hystrix rays stay smaller

Yup. I'm up in Clear Lake. There's like 15 rays here. All but 2 are Marbles. Tanks range from 75 to 300 right now, the adult rays are in a pond.

Definetly get some pics! Sounds like you have an interesting ray. Pics of parents would be great! Curious if its a true Hystrix that someone picked up pre ban. If so I'd love to hear the history.

yea WE NEED PICTURES!!!

As far as waterchanges, the more the better. But with 1 small ray in a 180 i think as long as you have good filteration, you can get by doing waterchanges every couple of weeks instead of every week. Maybe even every 3rd week. I would do it more often that every month though...lol You don't have much bioload in there with 1 fish. I would do more than 30% though IMO 50%-80%.

Like DB said make sure you are keeping your prefilter in your filter clean.

Also, do not risk feeders with that ray, you will regret it one day.

Alright I am going to try to post pictures of her during or after this weekend... Her tail has completely healed up and looks great just a little bit shorter... You'll see the pics soon enough...

I have no idea how to put pictures on this site so unless you give me the information on how to do I can only send the pictures through e-mail...
