stingray tips

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i would just dump them in the tank.... last few rays i got didnt get drip acclimated and they were fine... and for motoro consider your upgrade to be atleast a 36" wide tank... 48" would be ideal

i would look into a longer set up when they get to 18" but that is just me... im not one for square tanks they offer no swimming area really...

I'm not too sure why people are still doing the drip acclimation - I've had 30+ rays that I've just scooped and dumped and never lost a single one due to that. If you're getting your rays locally, your water is already probably almost identical - no point in acclimating. If your rays are coming from any distance, the water in the bag IS dirty, so get them out of the dirty water ASAP - scoop and dump!

I agree with Nic on the tank - if you can go 5x5, I haven't looked into prices but I'd think a 6x4, 8x3, or 8x4 would be comparably priced.

I think your tank right now should be able to house them for life. IMO.
You could not do the drip thing but since they might be coming from the supplier straight to your house, I would do the drip system...BTW it reduces the chances of shocking and possibly killing the young rays.

or increases if the ph in the bag is low and there will be ammonia in the water..... and a 180 is not able to hold a motoro for life

:iagree:Good ol KISS.

I use the drip method, but that's just because the stores where I get fish from have a fairly neutral pH, whereas I have a south american setup with lots of driftwood that keeps the pH around 6.4. I would be worried a pH difference of .6-1.0 would be too much for an already stressed out ray to handle. And its not really difficult to drip acclimate, at least if they're a smaller ray. I'm sure the larger ones would be a different matter.

With my new tank, I won't have the pH difference, and the water will be fresh and not dirtied by any other fish, so I will probably just dump them in when I get them.

sorry guys marbled motoros , and thanks for all input and advice !@!

but now i am torn , dump in in ?? or drip system ..as it is coming from supplier ?
