I'm buying a 180 gallon fishtank and was going to put some plants and drift wood in it with a black arowana.

So I was wondering, what type of ray would do well in this setting? would it be better do to a bare bottom tank with a piece of drift wood and a couple river rocks?

Also, the aro is only going to be living in the 180 for 2, 3 years maximum then it will be moved to a 300 gallon.

I would forget most of the plants, but you don't have to go bare bottom. My 300 is sand with some big rocks and no plants. It has a black aro and 2 rays and they all love it.

Cool! Got any nice pics? What kind fo rays do you have? I was thinking of getting motoros, but what Im afraid of is the rays outgrowing the 180 far before the aro does.

I have a retic. and a Peruvian flower variant (I call it a motoro usually)

I'll work on some updated pix tonight, but this is what it looks like for the most part (it's pretty bland)

Looks pretty good to me.

How bigs your aro? He looks nice!

So do you think I could get awa with keeping two motoro's and a black aro in a 180 for two years then moving them into a 300?

Also, just wondering what brand is your tank? I'm going to order a tank cause its cheaper then buying it from my LFS. I wanty a GlassCages but I have heard theyre prone to craking, and I have looked at the All-Glass and Oceanic tank websites and neither of them have 180 gallon tanks...

I think with a black and 2 rays you'll be in good shape for 2 years.

My black is about 16".... I can try to get better pix of him too

My tank is a used POS acrylic..........when you buy new(or even used), buy glass.

If you're trying to get a big ray through the top of an acrylic tank you'll hate them too lol....

Please share some pics of the black! What size did you get him at? I was going to try and get mine at about 4-6" but i have heard theyre pretty hard to find that size, but i have heard 10'' is pretty common.

I really like the Glasscages aquariums because theyre good priced. Only thing Im afraid about is cracking....

Getting a ray through and acrylic looks like it would suck! I hate how they dont have tops like glass tanks do.

i ordered a glass tank from glasscages had it probally almost a year set up but im not sure exactly..i like it its really thick and i havent had any problems with it so far i hope it doesnt crack

Well if you had it a Year I'd say youre doing alright. Someone told me that they have heard of Glasscages tanks breaking at arrival/set up. I think Im going to get it from Glasscages and just see what happens.

Come one Rally! Post those pics! Hahaha

rally your blacks about the same size as mine...what size did you get him?? i got mine at about 8" i cant believe how much hes grown tell i look at pics of when i first got him
