Stingray with Black Arowana questions..

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you'll have less money in a sump than you will have in 2 XP3s if you're smart about it. A wet/dry is FAR superior to XP filters. I hate the XPs that I have because they're a PITA to clean (compared to a wet/dry......they just arent as good either)

I use a 55 gallon sump on my 300 and it's more than enough. You could start with a big one and them move up.

with the help of MFK you'll have NO problem building one.

Thats reasuring. The only tools i have at my house are a power drill with about 1 bit... and some hand tools. Also, with a sump, dont you have to drill holes in the main tank? I'm going to search "DIY Sump" to get an idea.

you can also use an overflow box or DIY overflow for a sump. Just start your research now and you'll be well prepared when you get the sump.

Also, I really apreicate the help. It seems overwhelming right now, but I have to just keep thinking of the end result. I just have to tell myself "This is going to be awesome when I'm done" and I'll have the satisfaction of doing ot myself. Once again, Thank you!

I have a little question, I have heard of rays being weaned onto sinking carnivore pellets made by Hikari, has anyone had succes with this? Do you just slowly stop feeding them Bloodworms and start adding more pellets?

If this could be done, I wouldt definately do it. Because then I'd be able to feed My arowana floating hikari carnivore pellets and feed the rays sinking.

Ofcourse I'd give the rays the occasional prawn(s) for a snack and I'd give the aro crickets/earthworms from time to time.

Or could I just feed the rays pellets AND bloodworms?

I plan to feed my aro Hikari floating and blooworms for color and live crickets on occasion.

it's probably cheaper to feed them shrimp lol.

Hah, Ok. I replied to your PM, Dont know if you go it.

So shrimp as a staple? I just want to give them the best dite possible without breaking the bank.

feed shrimp as the main food. Get them off of bloodworms as quickly as possible. Hopefully they will never be on blood worms as they have like no nutritional value.

I feed shrimp majority of the time, earthworms as an occasional treat and live crayfish very rarely. They seem to enjoy the chase.

As for a wetdry, I was in the same boat. I was nervous to try one and worried about flooding it. I bought one from a friend and hooked it up. It runs great and helps my water a lot. And I just used an over flow, no holes in the tank. After using this sump I saw how easy it would be to just make my own. Next time I guess.

Hope this helps some. Shoot me a pm if you have any questions that arnt getting answered and I'll see if I can help :)

Thank you for the help!

I have changed my mind a little bit.. I think I might just get one ray andinstead get two gars, a black arowana and then have the motoro for the bottom.

Or I might even end up with just gars and an arowana.

Rays seem to be one of the harder fish to keep with water changes and feeding....

Well, I have been thinking about this when I started to think about even getting rays and I have came to the conclusion that I'm just not ready for rays. As I am only 14 years old, I dont have a job to support the rays exspensive feeding habits. I meen, my parents could help out sometimes but since I dont have a job, they would probably soon get tired of paying for such exspensive food.

I thank all of your for your help. It's really nice to talk too people with similar interests and learn tips and tricks.

But I think when I am 16 ore older and have a job with fairly decent income, I will be ready for rays.

But right now, I dont think I am ready. But someday I will be, and when I am I'll post plenty of pictures!

Once again, Thank you all very much.
