I've never heard of a 4" gold saum with white fins. only to have gold finnage beyond 4"? Thats crazy.

Trust me it happens. I was pissed, there I was thinking that I had made a good find. Then bam kicked in the nuts. Oh well

That's weird; I would assume that the poor food/water quality would affect the overall appearance and not just the saums.

I know, but I just assumed something was missing from thier diet to bring out the gold. I don't know and this is the best I can come up with as I still go to the store and they have the same stock which I bought mine out of and they are still white. The stores water quaility is tip top as well. It sucks either way.

Silver Saums have white, gold Saums should be either Gold or Red

Silver on top, gold on bottom. The Silver will never go gold.

I think he was referring to a fish that is believed to be a silver saum when it is young change coloring to a gold saum as it matures.

I believe that. While mine wasn't as much as an extreme case, his coloring changed dramatically. Of course the pics don't do a hundred percent justice.
First pic is about 2.75'' and the second is 6''+.
