Hey guys today I picked up a 180g tank. Just after some stocking ideas atm. Im thinking of either doing a discus/S.A cichlid community planted set up or getting a jardini and a couple of other monsters. Would the 180g be big enough for a jardini? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

A Jar is fine in a 180g, just be aware, depending on the individuals fish temperament, it might be the only fish you end up being able to keep in there. Some are quite aggressive.
Growing discus is very time consuming depending on how you do it. Just a thought
I think a 6' tank is too small for a jar. If a 180 isn't good enough for a male dovii then why would it be ok for a jar?

Tank size always comes down to personable opinion, but I think a 180g is widely considered (albeit minimum) suitable for Jars, Leis, and Asians.
I cant speak for Dovii as I have never owned one. There was a recent thread that was asking if they could last in a 125g and I believe most of responses suggested that a 180g would be suitable, I could be wrong though.
I agree a discuss tank would be awesome as well.
That's a big swing in fish type!? From discus to Arowana!! Couldn't get much more different peesoanlities.. I depends what you want in a fish. Big and bitey (that I like) or new age hippy fish....
The general accepted opinion on tank size is you want the tank to be as wide as the fish is long. So a 2 foot fish should have a 2 foot wide tank. This way it can turn around without much effort.
Yeh i know lol the tank is going in my living room so will be a display tank. I figured a discus setup would look better but ive always wanted a jar.
Heavily planted tank with discus will look amazing! But... It's a hell of a lot of work to keep the plants in tip top condition and do all the water changes to keep the discus happy.
The jar on the other hand.. Not what I would call pretty but very impressive fish! And far more interesting feeding times.

I'll stand by original statement. Short term it'll work out. I'm sure it'll work for while actually. But down the road, if you intend on keeping the jar, you'll need to upgrade. A 2' long fish in a 6' long tank? Accepted minimums can kiss my ...
