If you want some fish to keep in the tank long term, that have great color, easy to breed, easy to sell and a lot of fun to watch play fight & protect territories, it is hard to find a better fish than a South American cichlid known as the Ram or Butterfly (papiliochromis ramirezi) One of the oldest an best known species of Dwarf Ciclids in the hobby.
You can keep a couple pairs in a 20 & they can lay 200 eggs at a shot! The offspring will more than pay for their keep and offset the cost of your other fish needs.
Just keep up their water quality real good & give them lots of plants to make them feel at ease, with a few flat stones or small slate to lay the eggs on.
For their size, they are real show stoppers. :headbang2Check them out on-line.

Don't do seahorses...they aren't a very good beginner choice (unless you've done salt before)

Salt isn't that hard. If you decide to do salt, get a Mantis shrimp! Amazing animals.

And please don't get a black aro...

Would golden panchax killies count as predators?
