What about grass/redfin pickerel and crappie?

If you want a big, odd predator, try a bowfin.

Hogsuckers are delicate captives, I suggest you avoid them. If you do want suckers in a community tank, try chubsuckers (Erimyzon spp.); they are less heat and low-DO sensitive than other suckers. They would do fine with perch, sunnies, etc.

Bump, would a smallmouth bass work. Average temp in the hottest part of the summer during the day is 90 so i figure waters below 80.

If you have sustained temps in the 90s for a few days, that water is going to get up their in temp as well. It's not like a lake that has millions of gallons to warm up. 250 gallons will come to room temp fairly quickly.

Not saying you can't do it, but you might want to look into a chiller just in case. Daily cold water changes would probably help as well.

weird fish i always wanted to keep... yellow perch, never seen them in a tank and would def survive

i had four in a 55 gallon, they lived just fine, and within a week i had them converted to freeze dried shrimp, i'll get some photos up in a day or two to show them
