Stocking a 250g mbuna tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You said they were sticking to the rocks. That could be hiding. As I said, both mbuna and peacocks will use all levels of the tank.

Most if not all of them are at the rock level height. Most of the demasoni / johanni / mpanga are near the rocks when not begging for food. Yellow labs and peacocks are running around all over the tank, but seldom go higher than roughly 18 inches. Strawberry peacocks are always hiding at the back. I guess my tank is just too high at 28 inches.

I am grateful for your knowledge.
I got into African cichlids only 18 months ago with two psudotrophus elongated, blue mbuna, and two labidochromis caeruleius. Yellow labs. I despise all the Greek or Latin proper names. My mind does not grasp the latin.
I have read a lot of articles, researched lake Malawi. I am still learning new things, and please don't hesitate to correct me. As every thing I know, I learned from some one else.

So far my experiences have been molded upon, the trial and error of others. Going off other experience. I have 40 fish of which 6 are 2 years old, the rest from 1.5" thru 3". Their behavior is very peaceful, compared to the cold blooded killer fish, their reputation gives them.

I will be culling some once the porch tank becomes in season, as it's hard to catch the one your after. So I want a place to hold them, as I watch the tanks, for fighting if I upset the current pecking order.
