Ill be setting up a 300 Gallon within the next year and plan to get a large predator fish to stock it.

I have really good experiences with my red wolf fish in a 75 gallon. So I would like something relatively similar.

Something that won't seriously out grow a 300 gal, Atleast not too fast. Isn't destructive, So I can have hard wood scape and plants. Then is agressive.

Alagator Gar crossed my mind but it gets way too big. Not a fan of Arowanna, had one for a short time. Sold it because it wasn't agressive eanough.

Don't know much about tiger fish, or if there are other options out there.

I live by several specialty fish stores so acquiring rare fish won't be too hard.

Not a huge fan of most types of cichlids.

A few aggressive characins that come to mind:
How about piranha species? You could get a nice pygo shoal or a big rhom. Not really plant friendly though.
Smaller tiger fish would be good
Red tail barracuda
Larger wolf fish
Payara
A lot of exodons

i wonder if it were a 6’x3’x30” an aimara would be good...

josh tanks has a Feisty unit in now ?

sounds like you need a bigger species of wolf fish. They tick all your boxes and you probably won't run into any import / legality of ownership issues. If you are somewhere that doesn't have any restrictions maybe you should look at snakeheads.

Black piranha, how agressive are those? Are they actually predators or more bottom feeders?

Payara, Vampire Fish, I have seen those at my local store. Are they agressive or destructive? And will they attack my uand if I stick it in? Not a problem, my red wolf fish does. Just something to consider.

Larger wolf fish, I already have my red wolf. But I would like something thats more visible. Out swimming in the middle of the tank.

Florida Gar, anyone know how fast it grows or how active it is? It will be the only fish kept in the tank, but I want it to be the proper size. Not bare minimum tank requirement. Plus what ever i get will mostly be frozen/life fed.

Black piranha is to me what happens if you wired a piranha to think it is a Dovii. 18 inch max, slow growers. Super aggressive, not super active, but a true predator. One of the meanest characins. On my bucket list.

They definitely look mean. Do they need to be in groups or alone?

Florida Gar is definitely an option im considering then.

They are solo fish. As a rule most serrasalmus piranhas don’t do well with others. You can try to house a school of dithers with it for a little more activity. but it Usually doesn’t end well.
