stocking a 4x6x1.5 foot pond

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ive been thinking about making it an above ground pond would this be a good idea?if not then y?this is the first big pond ive made

At 18" in Iowa, it will be an ice cube in a month. Above ground anything has pretty extreme temp. swings. With any pond/pool that is in the ground, you get the benefits of having the soil regulate the temps. a little.

theres a website that im gunna buy a pond heater to keep it ice free during winter

not sure how well it would work on a pond, but get something to keep the water moving if the heater isn't enough. during the winter we always put big propellers under our piers to keep the water moving enough not to freeze around the piles and the boats. a similar idea, on a smaller scale, might be feasible for a pond i think.

its recomended for very large ponds but for ponds under 300 gallons (mines 281) then it can be used as a heater ill try to find the link

Might want to buy two to have a spare in the event one fails.
