Stocking a 55? I Need Ideas

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Im sure the hood is on there tight, i went out and bought a brand new hood to make sure and this one came with clear plastic strips that you can cut to cover the gaps at the back where the filter doesnt cover so im sure they cant get out unless he can squeeze through a 2 cm gap :screwy: lol

Also any idea on the amount of water i need to change and how often?

AQ

you'd be suprised what he could squeeze through, i'd cover the 2cm gap.

i cant lol its where the filters push there water out (back into the tank) so id think he might have a hard time with a current going against him and having to up then go to a angle then up again...like this:

top of the filter --------> |..........___ <---- and thats the hood and
water comes out here ----> ^...........the gap between is the 2 cm's
and flows past this ---------> |

Sorry for the crappy diagram but it was the only way i could think of without using paint:ROFL:

EDIT: Sorry for the periods on the diagram i cant put spaces so i have to put periods =P

well then you'll want to weight down the top of the filter cause i've heard of them going up through that hole and taking the filter cover off to escape.

might think i'm being rediculous by saying how good you need to cover your tank, but i have first hand experience of how good they are at escaping (mine went through my filter)

Yea i think i read your post saying that your rope went through that gap but it didnt cross my mind that he would push it up, ill be sure to weigh it down to make sure he cant lift it. Now back to my question on water changes, any idea on how much and how many i need to do a week to keep this baby clean?

Thanks,
AQ

i would advise against jewel cichlids because in my experience sometimes they can get pretty mean for their size

ya jewels can really bring on the aggression sometimes.....for w/c's a weekly 25% would work out, but the more you can do, the better.

i've been doing weekly 25%, but i'm going to step it up quite a bit (probably 50-75) when i finally get my system down so i don't have to use those damn buckets!!!!!!

lost my abf in a flying course. i had a covered tank too. he jumped out pf the filter hole. they dont move only until night time. and they only eat bugs that float on the water. they will eat nothing that sinks. oh and they love meal worms

Thanks for the SilverKnight, i have 2 filters (one on each end) so id think that the ABF can stay still with to current flowing but we will see, who no's maybe ill end up with one that swim all over the place :D

I cant wait to set this up, when about to do think i could start moving them in? The tank is already cycled by some zebra danois which i intend to give to my neibghour if they dont get eaten lol Should i add them in any special order or just add them as i can get my hands on them?

Thanks,
AQ
