I was thinking about that. Do you guys think I could get like 3 rope fish along with other things. Are there any spiny eels, like peacock eels that I could put in it?

yes i believe so....... rope fish get about 3 feet long thought but are flexible from what i can see so they should be fine in a 55. there also are tire track eels, zig zag eels,

Geez, yes man that helps a ton! I'll take all that into consideration and research some of the ones you mentioned.

Also so right now I'm really liking the spiny eel idea, but I have a few questions, which ones would you reccomend? and also I would like to change my statement bout live food-I will accept feeding earthworms/night crawlers. Would that be a suitable diet for the eels and rope fish?

If you consider anglelfish oddball...they work too. And they definitely don't need live food all the time...
thats what i would have suggested. theyre lots of fun and have great personalities!

The senegal bichir is a must in my book! I love my lil guy and he loves his 55 gallon :)

Dragon goby are also unique on second thought

Well it doesn't really change anything if you can feed nightcrawlers...a smaller polypterid is the way to go...if you use fine gravel you will probably never see your spiny eel until you feed nightcrawlers. Most won't accept live food. You might consider black ghost knives...
