No jags in a 55 for life, if it could be done I would not have an empty 55 right now , you could get a jag and use your 55 as a grow out tank for some time but in the end they need a bigger tank. You could do a GT but it would have to be a single fish tank like stated already, thats what mine was for until I lost my GT to internal parasites, now I just not sure what to replace him with.
Yes, and he specifically said "for life," so IMHO the Jag is out of the question. I think the GT fits the need better if you are planning on a 1-fish tank.
When you see things like "a jag will be fine in a 55," with NO qualifications (like saying only for a while), remember that there are no particular qualifications required to post here - anyone can answer, even people who have little knowledge or experience. You've got to be careful!!!
