Thinking about getting a shoal of p's
Haven't kept them for years but there catching my eye lately.
So if bought at 1" how many would you put into a 140g foot print is 72"X18". In a year or so I'll be getting a couple custom tanks made. So something around 3-400gallons.

What so you guys think! I think 8-12 would be fine in the 140 for a long time. But with an upgrade for sure in the next year what's the biggest shoal i could have.

8 maximum for your 140g.
it is difficult to keep 12 Ps in 140g for a year even they are 1" when you buy them.
But since u are going to have a 3-400 g tank in 1 year, maybe you can have about 10 in your 140g.
I've seen people having about 8 Ps in 100g without a problem, sometimes they survive and get along with each others well.

Go for 10 and give the tank good filtration + keep them in a good diet.
I believe they will be fine there for 1 year then.

How large will there be in 1 year with perfect husbandry. 6-8"? (From 1")

If you want 8-12 I would get afew extra because you will lose afew. I put 21 in my 125 and down to 18. But you don't need that much, only reason I got so many is for breeding purposes to get a better chance at getting pairs. And getting that many people will give you sh*t and say your a horrible person for it. But can't please everyone, feedings are extreme with those numbers too haha

but for you I would get 14 or 15

I'm gonna get like 20! I know Some will gross me out. But 12 months max! I'll be upgrading. Wondering the best foot print. 10'X2' 12'X2' or maybe 10X30"X30"

They say 20 gallons per pygo, at least. So for a 140, seven red bellies is adequate. If you are definitely going to upgrade, 8-10 is probably your best bet. A few more than that probably wouldn't hurt. I wouldn't go anymore than 15 though. Feedings at that number are going to cost a ton.
