So I am in the process of stocking and adjusting a 125 and two 55s. I have some of the fish already and will be getting others soon.

* means I already have the fish

Idea #1:
-125:
2 turquoise severum * (have but willing to rehome if necessary due to aggression or lack of space as I have plans to have a breeding pair of severums in a 90 I have in my garage)
4 keyhole cichlids *
6 geopahgus red head tapajos
1 spotted hi fin pleco *
(Considering a school of fish if I have room for the keyholes since they are a bit shy. Am considering lemon tetras)

-55:
4-6 honduran red points (will remove two if I end up with 2 breeding pairs)
8 Denison barbs
8 sterbai Cory catfish

-55:
4 angelfish (2 breeding pairs) *
8 sterbai Cory catfish
(Wondering if I have room for something else that won't interfere with the angels breeding)

Idea #2:
-125:
6 geophagus red head tapajos
6-8 angelfish (2 breeding pairs and 4 singles) *
(Worried this might be too much breeding in the tank if any of the geos pair up. Thoughts?)

-55:
4 keyhole cichlids *
8 sterbai Cory catfish
8 Denison barbs

-55:
4-6 Honduran red points (will remove 2 if I end up with 2 breeding pairs)
10-12 lemon tetras
8 sterbai Cory catfish

Which idea set do you think works best? Feel free to tweak the ideas a little to better fit a desire for minimal or to aggression. I do not want to add any more cichlids. I really like the ones I have chosen, but would remove a species in favor of another if necessary.

I am leaning towards idea #2, but the only issue I am concerned about is if the geos and angelfish can live together peacefully and if the tank could withstand 3 breeding pairs of cichlids without having too much aggression. I will already have 2 breeding pairs of angels and with 6 geos, there is the good possibility of having a breeding pair out of the group.

Angels and cories are fine, but (8) 4-6" Denisons in either 55 will be pretty crowded IMO. I currently house 6 with 4 angles and 4 cories in a 90 and am looking for larger long term housing. Just my opinion here, but I also would not house HRP's with Roselines either. 2 different speeds of fish

I've only kept HRPs single in a tank so I don't know personally how aggressive they are when they start pairing and spawning. But that setup for your 125g might have to take out an angel or two here or there again depending on pairing/spawning but I can't help but love a nice SA tank setup.

I like your last listed stocking for the 125....though I would keep the Severums in there too!
I agree with the statements made about the Denison barbs in a 55. They get pretty big and want be near enough swimming room.

I had not taken the size of the barbs into account. Thank you for pointing that out.

Won't the cories and geos be overkill on the bottom layer? They both sift through the sand and the geos should go a good job of picking up food from the bottom.

The HRPs are very peaceful from what I have read (at least compared to their convict cousins). I have read of people keeping cories and schools with them without issue. Even small tetras like rummy nose and neons (though that is of course on a case by case basis).

Only reason I have not added the severums to that list is because I want the angels to breed. Think the geos would bother the angels and keep them from breeding?

I would not recommend housing HRPs with cories... Just my experience, but my HRP male systematically killed off 6 rabouti cories in a matter of 2 weeks. I believe it's because they both inhabit the bottom portion of the tank, so the HRPs can sometimes see them as intruding on their territory.

While HRPs are generally more mellow than cons, my 4.5" HRP male in my 75 is an absolute brute and bosses around my 9" oscar. Each fish has its own personality basically. Good luck!
