stocking ideas for 5 1/2 gallon aquarium

my pet lizard just died and i was going to turn the tank he was in into a aquarium but i can decide on what to get..i live in iowa and would like have it as a planted tank and get something native. any ideas?

Gar Man. Sigh. I think you get the prize for Most Threads Started.
There's not a whole lot that's going to fit in a 5.5 g tank. A Betta or some same-sex guppies maybe. Smaller isn't better when trying to keep water parameters healthy. Just plant it 1st. Get your plants in there and let them grow for a few months...then add a Betta or a few female guppies.

You could do a planted invertebrate tank, snails or shrimp.

i was thinking mabye get some java ferns and 1 betta i wont have a power filter for a while so im getting a under gravel filter and idea on good plants for a new guy?o and i think im going to get some ghost shrimp to go with the betta

you could do anubias petite as well, its a nice plant for a small tank.

Bettas are very neat looking, then again so are guppies. I say the betta fish imo!

female bettas. you could get a couple females and get a male in a bowl and breed them. or you could just keep one male or a couple females

i tried breeding them before..it didnt turn out well...the heater was a clip on and it fell into the water and boiled them im not sure i want to try that again..
