  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i think ill stick with female bettas :) unless someone is willing to uy and donate some pygmies to me :) and back to my question how many female bettas can go into a 5.5 gllon aquarium?

I'm not a big fan of bettas. I vote CRS. They can get a little pricey.

get a dwarf puffer, full of personality and grows to only 1"

Forget all that. What you want are pygmy sunfish!

That particular one looks stunning, is that the Everglades pygmy sunfish Elassoma evergladei ?

They would indeed be a nice addition to a tank, even a 5½ gallon one but at $8.95 each per male and $7.95 each per female, I wouldn't blame the OP to sticking with just a Betta or Inverts.

I think you could have three (female bettas), but it would be a bit pushing it. Never have two, because one will become dominant and the other will be miserable. When you have three, you have a pecking order. (I saw something similar on an article about GSP's)

I would say breed Cherry Red Shrimp as suggested earlier.
Get black gravel, black background. Java moss, java fern, anubias nana, and you have a great low-tech planted tank that will produce hundreds of shrimp. which you can also use as feeders for potential cichlids you might have, or to sell/barter for the hell of it.
