I dont wanna to know how your lizards died. But guppies and betta combo is not good combo as betta often attack guppies. Corydoras need to be in schools which required more space than in cramped 5gal tank. You can add ghost shrimp with your betta and maybe few snails but that's it.

hmmmmmm goldens should have at least a 20 high to maintain a proper heat gradient. could be why you dont have a lizard any more. not to mention you never. ever. mix species, and especially dont mix continents.

Actually, this is correct. The bit about 'little' ponds is incorrect assuming this is in reference to puddles as often interpreted. Snails and shrimps are what I'd consider there. If you choose to go with inverts, fire away your questions and we'll be more than glad to help out.

and the gecko was in a 20 high but i had a friend over and he was throwing a basket ball around my room and shatered the side of the tank and my mom wouldnt let me get another tank and it was teh only open one i had

Dude, if your 5.5 gal ever becomes free again, just use it for some small ghost shrimp

i read that you want to go planted but also want to run an U/G filter
this is not possible your plants will end up dying
if you want to go cheap or something just get a sponge filter
