I would not recommend a colony of Fronts for this tank, or the mix of fish he has.

Hey Mike...

Can you explain which species will not work??

Thanks... Lady B.. That will be definetelly on my list.. I also like to have some Red Empress Haps, some Kribensis and some Nyererey.. Need to make sure they can live together calmly..

definitely not a good idea to keep african cichlids and kribensis together the africans are way too agressive toward kribensis, i have found out first hand experience had a 2 in african in with 2 kribs and the african beat one up bad! your other ideas are great! can't wait to see pics when you have it stocked!

Looking for ideas what to stock in the new tank.. I now have a 46gl bow (36") tank, with 7 afra cobues, 4 Rusties, 4 yellow labs, 3 syno cats, and a Tangerine Nyererey (my favorite). Will need to move some or all into the new tank. Also, I would like to have some Peacocks and a couple more Vics.. Looking for lots of ideas and not to overcrowd the tank again.. Thanks..

In red are not generally a good idea to mix. Also I do not recommend anything under 6ft for fronts. I have kept when smaller in a 120 4ft, deep tall. However after 4-5 inches I would pull them into a 6fter. Plus a 120 is not big enough for too much more than a group of 14 inch fish.

Thanks... I do have a 5' tank, and will not have any fronts.. I'm also looking to keep most fish around 6" like many Haps. or Vics.. The Mbunas I have, are not aggressive, so I should have no problem mixing them..
Also, Am wondering about Kribensis.. Perhaps, the Afras may be too aggresive for them, but the Rusties or Labs, I would think should be fine..

I repeat, not a good idea at all to keep any african cichlids with kribensis they are not meant to go with african cichlids of any kind... they should be in their own tank also because if they start breeding they are much better off as just a pair... then you can raise the fry in the same tank and have a colony of kribensises

I have in the past mixed haps and peacocks with mbuna. I would not do again. The results were tons of aggression, torn fins, less color. A full mbuna tank can be a terrific tank.

ok, guys.. May have to re-think how to stock this tank.. I would like to have a few larger fish in this tank. Not sure how many of the Mbunas would be in the 6"+ range.. Mike, if you were to stock this tank with mbunas, which species would you have and how many??
I also have the 46 bow available, which Am not sure whether to keep or not. Perhaps, I could do one species of Vics in that tank. Not sure yet..

greenearthlawns ... Thanks for the tip.. I like to avoid aggression as much as possible..
Geo

Ps. I do have a Tangerine Nyererey (possible hybrid) mixed with the Mbunas, and doing fine.. (although, they may not be mature enough (6mo). Does that apply to Haps also?? ex. Red empress

Many mbuna will get 6 inches when full grown. Pseudo Crabro are one of the largest. The males get all black great looking. The key is feading them and giving them time. I have plenty of mbuna that are 6 inches. I have a 120 mbuna right now, with tons of color!

I read about Pseudo Crabo, and Am hesitating adding them to my aquarium. (they're very aggressive) Perhaps, people add them to smaller tanks, and that is why problems occur. I would love to know what you have in your 120gl and how many fish you stock.. I'm having a hard time finding what fish are right for this tank. Also, the tank is 26" high, so would love some fish swimming at the top. Not sure any mbunas fit this criteria.

Mbuna will fill all levels in the water column. Use the bow front for the Vics, and the 120 should be for the Mbuna and maybe a Hap. or two.
