Good to hear your gonna say no to the oscar....oscar in a 55g is a lot of work. Dwarf pikes look soooooooo cool. Oh and you don't realize the bichir love till you get some. Can't wait to see what you pick.

quick question, if i were to get 24 exodons, would it work to get 12 then get 12 the same size a month later? just to split the cost...

i can't think of a good reason not to. never kept them though, so you might want to do some community research on them if you're worried about fights when new fish are added.

i'd also recommend stocking 10 to 20 since they get up to 6 inches long ...
They get to be 3 or 4 inches. I'd love to see one that is 6 inches.
And since it is a 48''x18'',you could easily have 40.

Great, thanks for pointing that out buddy. Which makes 40 or so do-able.

think i might go for 30 or a similar number, i get the tank very soon, havnt even seen it yet but its from a mate, im only paying 30 quid for it with substrate and a filter, lights etc, (just no heater) but its fairly new and it cant be bad for 30 quid!

dont know what type of filter it is untill i get it, all i know is it's fluval. i've been checking the prices of other filter options for a 55 incase its crap...

what you think for exo's.... proper background which is dark and has a bit of plantage on it or paint the back matt black?

30 would probably be perfect.

I like to paint backgrounds. Then you never have to worry about them falling off,or water getting between the background and glass.

i know im getting a little off topic here but i was wondering if tanks take a few coats of paint to look good?

If you brush or roll it,2 to 4 usually. If you spray it,at least 6 light coats to get it done, maybe more.

If you put a light on top of the tank, you will know when you have enough coats on it.
