Stocking Options?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah, I should have this new tank built and running by x-mas this year. I do like your idea of getting the slower growers first, as the O's can grow an inch sometimes more a month. It is sick how fast they get to like 9".

I have a lot of thinking to do.. This sucks lol.

Lol the planning is always fun yet aggravating. The problem with getting the gts first or other slower growers gives them more time to claim the 75 gal. When you add the smaller oscar later on you run the risk of running into issues. If it were me i would put an aggressive wet pet in the 75 gal so you can enjoy a "real" fish :) then when your bigger tank is ready then get your fish. At this time i would get the gt or jd larger than the oscar and add them at the same time so no one has first dibbs at territories

Between now and December, you will see minimal growth in your GT, maybe a couple of inches at most if you get it at ~2". Buy the oscar later in the year and put it in at the same time as the other fish in the newly built tank (quarantine the Oscar prior). The hierarchy will change when you move all the fish from the 75g to the newly built tank, anyways.

I do like the idea of the Jurupari, and Chocolate being added to the mix with the O. You can even put the sev in there. Personally, I like the look of a male GT over the blue acara. The chocolate will grow about half as slow as the oscar and would both would see each other as direct competition due to similar body shape, so keep that in mind.

Hey rock whats up man. You dont think he could run into issues adding the o to the 75 gal later on ?

Not to derail but the het is doing great no negative signs at all thanks for the help on that one

Jaws, the idea is that the Oscar is never added to the 75. He gets the GT and similar slow growers now and they have a chance to get bigger, then when the 300 is ready he moves them over and at that time purchases and adds the faster growing fish. He stocks the 300 all at the same time so it's not like adding new fish to an existing tank.

Got it...i thought op wanted to add all to the 75. Until the tank was ready

Ya, that's a bad idea, or a difficult one atleast, as I've begun to learn from experience =S

Everything is trial and error im always reminded of their individual personalities

I could also wait a few months with the Oscar and then redecorate the 75g when I add him in also to reestablish territory, no?

I picked up a stunning 3" JD and beautiful 2.5" Green Sev this morning... :)

Pics or it didn't happen! I'm at the LFS now picking up a chocolate to grow out.
