Stocking Question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
There is a method stocking aquarium in some cultures around the world called "pickerel stock tank", the tank heavily stock to create a crowded look that almost no space to swim for each fish and the owner love it like that, despite the crowded look these tanks have extreme excellent filtration and animals that live in there are well taken care of by the owner.
*I've seen a 300G tank with another 400G filtration system so the total water volume is 700G, it's bad if you only look at what you seeing in front view and behind the curtain/wall is another different story.
I see a fish capable of growing bigger than the tank it's in.Dont really matter what's behind the curtain.

feel that keeping an arowana in a tank as wide as a 40 g breeder is extremely cruel.

some knowledge of this species the right thing to do is say something

despite the crowded look these tanks have extreme excellent filtration and animals that live in there are well taken care of by the owner.
hello; Seems another forum member has provided a plausible answer.

feel a tank of 300 gallons should be the bare minimum for all those fish

Hello; Thanks again for proving my point. You have a very firm mind set and are not willing to consider the views of others. Your way is not the only possible way to run a tank. My take from your posts being that you would impose your favored standards upon others if you had the option.
Please note, I am not trying to defend the overstocking of a tank. I run my tanks lightly stocked the last few decades. My point being that so far we each get to run our tanks any way we wish. Give me advice and I will consider it. I do not want you nor anyone else trying to dictate to me about how to run my tanks.

Hello again.
I have no desire to tell you how to run your tanks but if I see something that is blatantly cruel,i will speak up.
If you are happy to watch and say nothing because you would not like it said to you, then that's your call.

I don't get why you wanna push your opinions onto others. I could understand informing them that it's overstocked and what not because maybe they don't know. Why do you have the authority to jump down someone's throat for how they keep their fish? I wouldn't critique you on child raising it's each to their own.

But at the same point if you saw someone who was keeping their child lets say under the stairs harry potter style and didnt let them out except to eat and go to school would you speak up?

what the hell? we aren't allowed to suggest tank sizes now?

so we're not allowed to "impose" our opinion about tank size on people that ask questions about tank size? but we allowed to tell people not to tell people about tank sizes? what in the name of lucifer is going on in here.

im gonna impose my tyrannical authoritative authority on the op and this thread and say that (long term) a 300 is a little on the small side, in my radical opinion. I've seen several over 2' in length and one that was between 3' and 4'. those fish are no joke. in the same realm as pacu and rtc if you want my authoritative dictation.

p.s who was talking about radical animal rights groups? sounds like someone wanted to complain and argue.

Hello; Go back to the initial post. The op later cleared this up a bit, but initially was talking about "yelling" at the tank owner and "taking" the fish. That was what I was responding about.

Not a problem, from me. about giving advice about tank size and/or stocking at all. Read my posts. Pretty sure I was clear about offering suggestions.

It is not an imposition if someone asks for advice. I tried to make my position clear, sorry if you did not follow. You seem to have responded to my comments out of context.

how big of a tank and how many gph filtration to comfortably stock these guys in one tank?

Going back to op's original question, I think an arowana of adult proportions would need 300 g plus.

Sounds like you have a tank size criteria which you are willing to try to impose on the rest of us.
(sounds like he was answering the question asked.)

It is not an imposition if someone asks for advice.

whatever i guess.

hello; Interesting spin. Yes later in the thread the OP refocused the question to tank size for the pictured tank. I have been talking about the concept one person trying to impose their particular views starting with my first post.

The OP cleared up his/her question and best I can tell has moved on. A couple of you do not seem to like my point of view. That is fine with me. It is interesting that you champion the notion of freedom to express an opinion yet seem bothered that I did so. Go figure. Have a nice day.
