Stocking suggestions for 150-180 gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thank you for all the suggestions. Should be getting the tank within a week. So gonna chip away at it and figure out the aquascape, substrate, and cycle the tank for the upcoming stock...that I am not totally sure of yet. LOL

Since I live in Pasadena and my water is Lake Tangyanika/Malawi out of the tap I have also been considering a colony of Moba/Mpimbwe C.Gibberosa....or a larger Hap tank like Borleyi, venustus, Blue Moorii, Placidochromis, etc.

Or I have somebody I can get an awesome deal on Bulu Point, Moshi Petro juvie/fry...but man they are aggressive.

I have only kept various aftrican setups because of the harder SoCal water....in exception to a few CO2 injected planted tanks with rams/apsistos, tetras etc....

I have never kept New World/American cichlids....I guess that is the attraction. How will they fair in such tap water conditions....if I am not getting WC fish?

I have been doing African cichlids for the last 14 years and have had frontosas off and on for a third of that time. Has always been in 6 foot long tanks ranging from 135-180 gallons.

I love them but you cannot put much else in with them and they are pretty placid. By that I mean they are not boisterous and active like many cichlids. That could be a plus or a minus depending on your point of view. The photo below is of my wild caught mpimbwes.
