Stocking suggestions for a native tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I checked out that Zimmerman's fish website. If I decide to go ahead with the native tank, that is definitely where I'll be ordering from. Thanks everyone for all of the info and advice.

Good luck, keep us posted and make sure to post pictures.

i would go with some warmouth. im making my 10g into my new cichlid tank for a bit and getting some natives for a change. im going to get a small northern or a smallie and keep it untill its to big and release it. but for tank mates im thinking 4 to 5 bluegill and a few crappie and a bull head in a 60g tank. i wouldnt be to worried about aggression as long as the fish are kept fed and have a good aquascape to keep their minds occupied

It is against the law to release captive fish back into the wild, please do not do that; a 60g is way to small for a Smallmouth and a Northern Pike, Depending on the Footprint(dimensions) I wouldn't go smaller than a 400g.

well would it still be illegal if my uncle had a permit from the state since he has a hatchery? because i was just gonna get fingerlings to put in the tank and since its illegal for me to release them i could give them back to him when they get to big

As long as he dosent release them into the wild, but I would still get fish to put into your 60g that can live there for at least 2-3yrs.
